The Quorn Millennium Fireworks Display
Held on Saturday January 1st 2000 due to a technical hitch - the 24-hour delay was well worth the wait! It was really difficult to photograph this event, but the results are shown below.

Quorn Celebrates New Year Twice!
All seemed lost when Quorn's Fireworks failed to go off at Midnight on New Year's Eve, but
next morning, Phil Child who has been leading the village celebrations made a series of
phone calls and the Fireworks were all set for launch at 7pm on New Year's Day. How could
everyone in the village be told though? 2000 leaflets were printed by early afternoon, but
how could they be delivered in just a few hours to every home in Quorn?
Phil called in 2nd Quorn Scout Group. The Cubs and Scouts along with their families and a
large number of friends were soon out around the village and by late afternoon every house
in Quorn knew that the Fireworks display was on. By 7 o'clock more than two thousand
people had gathered in the centre of Quorn. Champagne corks popped as the first fireworks
soared up in the air. The spectacular display ended with spontaneous applause by the crowd
in the village and then with many going on to local pubs to continue the new year
celebrations!
The day after the event, Phil's phone has been red hot with people ringing to thank him.
"Spectacular", "Fabulous", "Wonderful" and
"Awesome" have all been used to describe what villagers thought of the display.

Will you please pass on our thanks to all concerned for their hard work, and especially
for leafletting everyone so we could all come to the centre to see them. They were as good
as the London ones and much bigger because not on the small screen. Our own show has to be
the best and it was.
Professor Emeritus Brian Shackel

spectacle!
