Alma in Concert
7.30pm (doors 7pm) - Quorn Village Hall

review - Alma in Concert.....

Alma were spot-on...the band were completely tight from the first note and continued to take their audience on a whistle-stop tour of European folk dances’ (fRoots Magazine)
_____________________________________________

Alma bring together award winning fiddlers John Dipper (English Acoustic Collective) and Emily Askew (Askew Sisters) with guitarist Adrian Lever (Arhai).

Inspired by fiddle traditions from England and across the world, at the heart of Alma's music is the joyful sound of fiddles playing in harmony nurtured by the sensitive and driving accompaniment of guitar. Alma’s distinctive approach to the gems of each tradition result in beautiful and exciting new arrangements, which tantalise and excite the audience.

Each member of Alma brings their own individual style and influences to the band:

John’s work with Chris Wood in the English Acoustic Collective, ground-breaking string quartet Methera, Patterson Dipper, and Dipper Malkin.

Emily’s extensive experience in early music (playing with The Dufay Collective, Shakespeare’s Globe and at Glyndebourne) as well as her work on the folk scene with The Askew Sisters and the Elizabethan Session.

Adrian’s knowledge of Eastern European music developed through his work with Arhai and Horses Brawl.
2016 saw the release of debut album Varieties on Rootbeat Records. This received rave reviews and airplay on many radio stations.

Tickets are £10 and are available from Terry Stirling

Quorn Local History Group Talk - Tony Jarram - Lacemakers and Luddites

The invention of a machine to replicate hand made lace took over 200 years to evolve. Its arrival brought about great changes. The talk will involve artefacts that will help bring the story to life. This promises to be a fantastic meeting - all are welcome!

The Cory Seznec Band - New Music from the Old
7.30pm (doors 7pm) - Quorn Village Hall

Reviews - The Cory Seznec Band.....

‘Loose, jazz, old-time, bluegrass, it, African melange that seems to come from a deep well of the collective unconsciousness… at its core this is fun, toe-tapping music, equally at home on a summer’s afternoon or blowing the winter blues away.’ (R2 Magazine)

Corentin “Cory” Seznec is a Franco-American musician living in Paris, France. A multicultural household, extensive travels and musical encounters, and a passion for history exposed Cory to sounds from around the world, helping him to develop his own distinct style that reflects his broad interests. Cory focuses on fingerstyle guitar, clawhammer banjo, voice, harmonica, and an array of other instruments. A founding member of Groanbox and Seznec Bros, Cory also helped create the Sawmill Sessions, an Old-Time and Bluegrass collective in Paris. A resident of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for 3.5 years, he was active in two bands MistO-MistO and Damakase, which mix Ethiopian music with other African styles. In July 2016, Cory embarked on a trip with filmmaker Gonzalo Guajardo to Luhya country in western Kenya to make a documentary on some of the few remaining omutibo style guitar players. In October 2016, Cory recorded a video lesson of some of his arrangements of New Orleans-infused fingerstyle guitar for Stefan Grossman’s Guitar Workshop (released early 2017). He is currently finishing his second studio album at Tonehouse Studios outside Paris.

Quorn Neighbourhood Plan - ‘Next Steps Open Day’
10am to 1pm - Quorn Village Hal

Thank You for your active support of the development of the Neighbourhood Plan for Quorn. In August 2017 over 150 of you took the time and trouble to come to speak to us at the first Open Day. Now over 400 people have completed the questionnaires including more than 60 young people. The community and council volunteers have been working on your returns and analysing what you have told us. This will enable us to draft the policies reflecting those issues you believe are important for Quorn’s future. You are now invited to attend this Open Day and provide feedback on the Neighbourhood Plan so far. Remember! this is your Plan and it is now time to:
Tell us…have we got these policies right to serve Quorn as our village inevitably develops and grows? These are the policies that will influence future planning decisions.
The important date for your diary is Saturday 24th March 2017, 10.00am-1.00pm.
The ‘Next Steps Open Event’ will be at the Village Hall where the volunteers will be available to answer any questions and talk to you about their interesting work.
If you require further information or assistance getting to the venue, contact Paul Goodman in the Parish Office on 01509 413 067 or Email: adminassistant@quorndon.com
