..........................................................
He smelt like a mountain goat, chain-smoked Woodbines and lived in a cave. Millican Dalton was a mountain guide, philosopher and self-proclaimed inventor of shorts..

Leaving his stifling city job, Millican dropped out before it became fashionable to do so and set out to seek romance and freedom living amongst nature in cabins, tents and caves for the next fifty years of his life.

The tale is set in 1941 and Millican is in 'the safest spot to escape the kind attentions of Mr. Hitler' - his cave in Borrowdale. But the Keswick ARP warden has just ordered him to …“Put that candle out!”

- and the Borrowdale Hermit is far from happy.......

Meet this true English eccentric, the self-styled Professor of Adventure, in a one-man show celebrating his unique outlook on life, his philosophy and his continuing quest for freedom.

“Free am I as the buzzard mewing by day
or the owl hooting by night.
Freedom is everything".
The Professor of Adventure is written and performed by Peter MacQueen who although living now in Keswick was born and bred in Quorn.

1st July 2017 [Saturday]
Quorn Open Gardens
12.30pm to 6.00pm - Quorn Village

Spring is (almost) here!! ... and we've set the date for this year's Open Gardens. We are hoping there will be 15-20 gardens open to the public - most will be open on both days, but some for one or the other. As previous years, many garden owners will be selling plants and some will provide refreshments and cakes.

The gardens are scattered around the village - some in clusters and some out on their own. As Quorn is quite a large village, getting between gardens at opposite ends of the village can take time, especially if you're on foot. A bike is ideal, although you can drive as there are very few parking restrictions in the village and you can often park close to each garden. There will be larger areas for parking at Rawlins Academy and in the village centre car park on Station Road.

We are also hoping to have craft stalls at the Church Rooms on Church Lane.

The Passport will allow free access to the craft fair. These will be on sale a few weeks prior to the event at Bradley's on Station Road and the Co-op on Loughborough Road. Although you can buy on the day from any participating garden.

Proceeds of Quorn Open Gardens will go to LOROS.

If you wish to participate in this year's Open Gardens or would like further information, please contact Ann Clarricoates on 01509 414 105 or e-mail: clarric60@gmail.com.

Don't forget to put this event in your diary!
