Another excellent event in Quorn's calendar - a picnic and concert in
Stafford Park on Monday 3rd June 2002 to celebrate The Queen's Golden Jubilee.
The weather was unpredictable and saw heavy rain in the morning. Black clouds continued
through most of the day until clearing in late afternoon, but mostly it stayed dry for the
event.
The programme for the day started at 4.00pm with the Royal British Legion (Quorn) Pipe
Band. Palfi the Clown entertained kids during each interval. At 5.15pm a thanksgiving
service was given for HM The Queen (David Bowler and Howard Ketton presided). The Hathern
Band took over at at 6.15pm with Canzonetta following at 7.00pm.
The end of the day saw The Sisters of Murphy testing the lorry's suspension, playing from
8.00pm through to closing at 10.00pm.
People brought their own picnics, but a beer tent helped top up when stocks got low. An
excellent cake stall kept everyone stocked with bananabread and flapjacks.
