Great site. I left Rawlins in 2002, and actually I quite
miss the village. I go to Brooksby Melton College now and Melton Mowbray
doesn't have the same effect when going down the "ville"
as we used to call it, in good Rawlins times.
Good thing is that you take pride in your village which is what my
village needs a bit more of - "pride".

My name is David Sturley and I last lived in Quorn in
1950 before moving to Woodhouse Eaves. I left there in 1952 migrating
to New Zealand as a child migrant under the late King George 6th immigration
scheme. In 1998 I return to England with my wife on a short visit
and did revisit both these townships. I lived with my parents and
sister and three brothers in Nursery Lane. My father worked for the
British Government at Beau Manor. I was amazed to see so many things
in both Quorn and Woodhouse Eaves the way they were when I was lad
of only seven years.

Amazing! After 52yrs I have visited my old village.
Thankyou. I left for NZ as a 9yr old boy and have many happy memories
of quorn. I lived close to the church in nursery lane, still remember
the bells on Sundays. Once again, thankyou.

Hello everyone in Quorn. I came upon your website by
accident {looking for something else} I must say I just spent the
most delightful hour lost in Quorn. I'm originally from India, lived
in Birmingham; London; Romford and back to B'ham. Now in Sydney Australia.
Looks like you all enjoy living there. It looks and sounds like a
very beautiful place. Continue to Enjoy!

HI, I love your village, my sister, Rita Madden, has
recently moved there and sent me your web page address. And I would
love to live in a place that is so beautiful, and has less than 2,000
people. The pictures of the winter scenes look like post cards. You
live in a wonderful place.

Excellent website. Does anyone remember Thomas Rawlins
Grammar School? I attended and lived in Quorn throughout WWII. (I
remember the 505th very well and the general sadness when we learnt
of their heavy casualties). I've lived most of my life overseas but
have booked to visit Quorn next week!

Frankly I had never heard of your village until this
very moment. But alas you have probably never heard of my town either.
Let's get acquainted. And.....in fact the only reason I found your
website was that I was investigating an imitation fungus meat product
with the same name. But...no matter I have browsed your very nice
website and you have a lovely place in the world with nice people.
I hope to visit one day, it looks interesting!

It was great to look back on Quorn. My Wife and I spent
our first few years of our married life living in Quorn. We both worked
at M Wrights and sons and know some of the names that have been mentioned
in the above letters. We lived in Wood Lane and visited a few years
ago to see such a big change. My wife lived with the Prices. Thanks
for a great site.

Hi,
I came onto your village site by way of my brother. He found an article
in the NY Time on the fungi product manufactured in your town, called
quorn. He was amazed to note that he had trained in your village with
the 505 Infantry Regiment during WWII. I am printing as much of your
information and forwarding same to him. He will be delighted!
Mention was made in the guestbook to a history of the
505, I did not see anything on it, I did see the pictures and I have
printed these for him. If you have any additional information or source
of information it would be appreciated if you would advise of it.

My grgrgrandmother's family lived here c/1800-1835. Marriages of her

To Whom it May Concern,
Our son, who is "computer literate", found your website,
and forwarded to us photos of memorials which had been erected in
Quorn to honor those men in the 505th Regmt. who were stationed there,
prior to their combat duties. My husband, George Melahn, and his twin,
Joseph Melahn fought in the Battle of the Bulge, George was wounded
and his brother was killed. When we received these photos over the
"net", my husband was very touched. My husband remembers
attending Mass at a Catholic church in Quorn, and being invited to
dinner by a very nice couple.....his brother, Joe, was very shy and
declined, but my husband still remembers the kindness of the people.

What a beautiful little town. From what we have read

Thank You! Being a fairly typical American Dolt, I've
been confused about the distinction of U.K., Great Britain, and England.
We've NO clue what the hey each term refers to, specifically. Most
people don't realize they don't know, until they're asked about it.

I stumbled across your site while reading about "Enigma",
your description of where Quorn is (from top to bottom) is the most

Minnesota are. . .:).

I hope to see you soon.
Hello Quorn. I was actually a Barrow lad but my family
have deep roots in Quorn. I used to cycle to the station for a spot
of trainspotting (in the days when 'Flying Scotsman' was shedded at
Leicester), and in the 1960's had a couple of seasons with the football
club. My sister (Carole) went to Rawlins although I went to Humphrey
Perkins School. My father (Vic) worked at Wright's and I can remember
being taken to listen to the band on the dodgem rink when the fair
was in town. My grandfather (Joe) won a cup for the 100 yards at the
Coronation Sports held on June 26th 1902. Any further info on this
event would be appreciated. Keep up the good work.

Have just logged into your website from Thailand. What
a pleasant surprise to be able to keep updated with what's going on
at home. We are on a 12 month world tour (6 months into it), so being
able to keep in touch with local news and events is great.

Wow what a surprise, great site. My mother ( now 80
) has just come out for a visit to Sydney from Quorn and told me about
the site. It brings back memories of my happy childhood. I came to
Quorn when Toller Rd was built in December 1957 from Barnsley aged
9. I attended St Bart's Primary ( who remembers Miss Sterman ) then
went on to Humphery Perkins. I left Quorn in 1972 to work in London
and transferred to Aust in 1983. I was a choir boy at St Bart's form
(about) 1959-61 and was married in St Bartholomew's 1st may 1972.
If anyone also remembers me and those times. Please e-mail me, would
love to hear from you.
Steve Furzey, North Rocks, Sydney, Australia 2151.

Just thought we would drop a quick line to say WELL
DONE your web site is great! We live in Windsor, Ontario Canada but
I am one of the Gamble girls, daughter of Chris and Rosie of Leicester
road. We moved over here in 1997,and ever since I heard of your website
I have used it to keep in touch with the news from the village. My
Dad sends me the newsletter too so I don't miss anything. I have two
daughters, one of whom has not yet visited England, but the other
one loves looking up the pictures to see where Nanny and Grandpa Quorn
live. Thanks for helping us stay in touch.

Really enjoy coming to this site, seeing what's happening
in the best part of the country. Barrow is where my heart is but they
only have an excellent site about the church!

This is a very good site for a small village. I used
to live in Sileby, and they haven't thought of anything like this.
Congratulations.

What a pleasure to visit my grandfather's birthplace!
He was baptised in St. Bartholomew's in 1888. A century later and
half a world away, our hearts have come a-homing.... !! Keep up the
super work. :-)

Thank you very much for this outstanding website! I'm
a student of the English language and literature at the University
of the Saarland and I'm just preparing a lesson on Quorn. The pupils
will work with your website to get to know your village as they're
going to visit Quorn in March 2000. I wish them a nice stay in Quorn!
All the best to the village people.

Having just located your website address, I thought
I would send You an Email. I am a bed and breakfast operator just
28kms north of Quorn in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. The
property is a working sheep farm, located between Warren and Buckaringa
Gorges, in the spectacular Flinders Ranges. I would be delighted to
have vistitors from your own Quorn come to stay. Thank you for being

As a result of the Quorn Village Website, I have found
a 3rd cousin in Canada and a whole branch of the Wykes family (My
maternal Grandmother's family - who lived in Church Lane) in Canada.
Thank you for facilitating this joining together of the family!

What a fabulous website! After much genealogy research
on-line I found I had extended family in Quorn - the Steads. They
just sent a Christmas card to us with this website listed to visit.
I hope to actually be able to visit your beautiful village in person
some day. Thanks!

I enjoyed seeing the wonderful pictures of Quorn. I
visited there 2 years ago and enjoyed it. I will want to return to
Quorn soon as my ancestors were raised there and buried in the church
cemetery of St. Bartholomews (Cross families). You have a wonderful
resident of Quorn that was so nice to me when I visited there named
Alan Parker-Merry. I enjoyed this web site immensely.

I'm back home in Toronto, Canada, after a MARVELLOUS
visit to Quorn. Walking with my 82-year-old third cousin, Robert Wykes
(born in Quorn), I saw the historic parish church where my grandfather
was baptised in 1888, the cenotaph listing my great uncle's name among
those killed in World War I, all the shops and pubs, the green fields
and the beautiful Soar River. I met a host of new-found relatives
who very kindly shared with me their own fond memories of Quorn going
back as much as 80 years.
Now I'm so glad I can keep in touch with Quorn via your
superb website. I am recommending your site to friends and family
around the world for a comprehensive, accessible and first-hand
picture of the village so close to my heart.
Merry Christmas to all Quornarians! Eileen Wykes, Toronto, Canada.

You have done so very well with the Quorn website.
No odious comparisons - it is GOOD! I don't think I want to tell you
how to improve it, you can do it if it can be done! One day I have
to visit Quorn, can't wait. It will be a gigantic change from Toronto,
with a population of about 10,000,000! I came here from Whitstable
(Kent), which still has a population of only 25,000, 3,000 more than
when I left in 1954! I will watch as you continue your evolution.
Gerald Tooke, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I have just been reading all about Quorn Church on
the web site. It brought back a lot of memories - we were married
in Quorn Church 11th September 1971 and we lived in Quorn until we
emigrated 1982 to Canada. Thank you for all the information that I
have just learnt reading this.

Love to visit your website. My sister and brother-in-law,
Jose and Philip Wilson, live in Quorn, so it brings me nearer to them.
I was very thrilled to see my sister's embroidery of the dancing couple
pictured in the Embroidery Club write-up. The website is the next
best thing to visiting in person, but I am trying to save for another
trip over to the U.K. Congratulations to all involved with the site.

Hi there Quorn Website,
Greetings from Sydney Australia.
As a former L'boro Uni Student and Quorn resident I was very interested
