A total of 11 villages won through to the final round of the 2002
Best Village Competition, sponsored by the Rural Community Council,
the Leicester Mercury and Calor Gaz.
Quorn was awarded first prize in the large village section.
The competition is no longer judged solely on the physical
appearance of the village. Marks are awarded for maintaining existing
public and private facilities, general maintenance and tidiness and
projects and initiatives that fall within the following categories:
environment
care of inhabitants
local facilities/businesses
information and communication
identifying and addressing needs
This new format makes the competition more closely related
to the National Village of the Year competition.

bodies presenting John Hutchinson as Chairman and other members of
the Parish Council with the award plaques.
