Switching on Quorn's Christmas Lights
December 5th 2003
Another event on Quorn's calendar. A large crowd descended on the centre of the village to sing carols and see the Christmas lights switched on.
This year, some new lighting had been added to replace lights that were broken during the previous year. Much of the new lighting featured icycles hanging from the eaves of the buildings in The Cross.
The weather was quite cold but dry. The area outside Cornerhouse was full with people spilling into the road. Live brass band music was supplied by village youngsters, playing popular carols for the crowd to enjoy.
After the ceremony, people headed for the Church Rooms for hot mince pies, mulled wine and other refreshments organised by Quorn Parish Council.
As ever, numbers were hard to gauge, but something in the region of 200 people came along to the lights ceremony, with perhaps 150 going on to the Church Rooms. At least, 120 glasses of mulled wine were consumed ...
Now a regular event in the village. Look out for next year's date!
