The May Day celebrations got off to a rousing start as The Quorn
British Legion Pipe Band led the parade through the village from
the Church Rooms to Stafford Orchard,
the new home for the event.
Entertainment began with
the traditional May Pole Dancing, followed by a packed
programme of Junior Folk Dancers, The New Shakespeare
Company performing "Noah's Ark", and live music
from Rawlins staff and students, Quorn British Legion
Pipe Band and the Ceilidh Band.
The inter Pub Tug of War featured hefty teams from The Apple Tree and
The White
Horse, with the Apple Tree winning. The grass will slowly recover in
time for next year's event.
Refreshments were provided by the joint pubs Beer Tent, plus the
Explorer Scouts sell-out BBQ and the ever popular traditional
cream teas from the Baptist Church.
Over 30 local organisations were represented on the fundraising
stalls and
hopefully plenty of funds have been generated to support work in
the
village.
QWEST Explorer Scouts provided the "muscle" to set up
all of the tents and stalls, as well as clearing the site,
including the litter at the end of the
day - thank you.
And the weather? No need to worry - May Day in Quorn always seems to
get away with it, and this year was the same, the rain just nipping
in at the end as the clearing-up started.
Here's to an even bigger and better 2005!
