TV appeal in Quorn 1991 child rape case Extracted from the BBC website October 2006
Police reinvestigating the rape of an 11-year-old girl in Leicestershire in 1991 are hoping a television appeal will give them vital new leads.
A reconstruction of the crime, which happened in Quorn, has been filmed for the BBC Crimewatch programme.
Police said the girl was now aged 26 and was still traumatised by the attack but had fully supported the appeal.
Detectives hope the screening will spur people to co-operate with police to catch the rapist.
Detectives described the attack as one of the most shocking crimes in the area's history.
'Misguided loyalty'
Known locally as the Quorn rape, the attack happened on Saturday, 22 June, 1991.
The victim was snatched from her bike as she played on a pathway at the side of the Quorndon Fox pub on the A6.
She was bundled into the boot of a white car and driven towards Leicester.
The driver later stopped the car, tied the girl's hands with stockings and raped her.
After the attack the man drove to Loughborough and left her at the Sainsbury's supermarket loading bay on Green Close Lane.
"She was traumatised by the attack and still is after 15 years," said Det Ch Insp Steve Harrod.
"A mum or a daughter or an ex-partner might think things did look at bit odd at the time and there was misguided loyalty.
"They may think that things have changed and they can now work with police to bring this man to justice," he said.
