A Quorn dog has the unlikely honour of having been served the UK’s first DASBO, or Dog AntiSocial Behaviour Order.
New government legislation for 2007 gives broader powers to local authorities when dealing with dog issues. Typically these are aimed at combating noise, but the legislation can be applied to address broader behavioural and nuisance issues. The legislation can be invoked by Charnwood and can include wide ranging sanctions.
A DASBO is served on a dog’s owner’s rather than the dog.
The dog in question was apprehended after he had cocked his leg against one of Quorn’s Community Support Officers who was talking to an elderly couple in the village's Stafford Orchard. Being a big dog, this action resulted in the CSO getting wet trousers, coat and a partially filled boot.
The dog is now bound over for 6 months and must not cause further distress to anyone in the village during that period.
