Dear Resident of Quorn
The old Primary School on School Lane is currently at risk of being disposed of by Leicestershire County Council which may result in it being demolished and the site developed for private use. An action group has been formed to try to save the Old School buildings for use by the village community.
We need your help!
The mainly Georgian and Victorian buildings are situated in the very heart of the village, right next to the Stafford Orchard playing field and recreational area.
The buildings have many large spaces with high ceilings inter-connected by smaller rooms and corridors. Outside there is the potential for an enclosed courtyard and a small amount of car parking.
Quorn is a large village which already has some great facilities but none of these offer the same kind of space nor can they have permanent specific uses as they are usually hired to individual groups and can often be booked up and become unavailable.
Being next to and having access to Stafford Orchard also widens the list of possible uses which might be...
An arts and crafts centre with gallery space and a stage and proper facilities for theatre groups including
changing rooms and storage for costumes and props.
Indoor sports and keep fit facilities facilities, again with changing facilities.
A community centre for young and old with a cafe, meeting spaces, a library, a youth club and even a small local history centre...
What would you want?
There are many uses that could be made of the buildings and we need your suggestions as to what they could be! We have to convince Leicestershire County Council and financial backers that there is a strong need and desire for these buildings to be used by the community and that concrete plans are being made for their use but...
This is our only chance to save the buildings for community use and this is your opportunity to have your say!
We need to act now as Leicestershire County Council have imposed a tight deadline upon us, so please complete our questionnaire now.
The completed questionnaire can be returned to the most convenient address to you listed below or can be collected from you by telephoning 620481 or 414287 and leaving a message.
REMEMBER IF WE ACT NOW WE STAND A GOOD CHANCE OF SAVING THE OLD SCHOOL BUILDINGS FOR USE BY YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. IF WE DO NOTHING THE SITE AND THE OPPORTUNITIES IT PRESENTS WILL
BE LOST FOREVER.
