Quorn Parish Council Election - February 14th 2008
Terry Stirling, previously a Councillor on Quorn Parish Council, resigned from the council in December 2007, creating a vacancy. Vacancies can be filled either by co-option (where candidates put themselves forward and are interviewed) or by full election. At least ten electors in Quorn contacted Charnwood to request an election, so a full election had to be held.
Election Costs
Charnwood have confirmed that the overall cost of the election is £2,500, although there may still be some unaccounted minor expenditure. This election cost is paid by Quorn Parish Council and will be taken from reserves. The Parish Council receives its funds from Quorn residents via a supplement to their community charge (the "precept") and it is collected directly by Charnwood.
Election Turnout
Charnwood have confirmed that the election turnout was almost exactly 25% of the electorate.
Poll Cards
At their monthly meeting in January, Quorn Parish Council decided not to have poll cards sent out to all electors in advance of the election. The issuing of poll cards is optional. Had cards been issued to all electors, the election cost would have increased by approximately £800.
