Bart's Babies and Toddlers
The Church
caters for the needs of even the youngest people, and not only in baptism and All Stars
(Junior Sunday School), important as these are. Barts Babies and Toddlers meet for
an hour every Monday morning (except the 5th one), at 10.30 in the church itself, when
parents bring children from 4 or 5 weeks old up to school age. Prams and pushchairs are
brought right in and parked in the church aisles. Toys and books are provided to occupy
the little ones, while coffee, tea and biscuits revive the adults.
The babies, playing on the carpet, thoroughly enjoy each others company, while the parents are able to get to know each other. There are usually four helpers present who provide the refreshments and company, and who keep an eye on adventurous toddlers as they roam around other parts of the church. At the end of the hour, either the Vicar or the Minister gives a word or two of relevance to children and families and closes with a prayer.
Though no charge is made for attendance, donations to defray expenses are welcome. This meeting is typically useful for mothers as an outing, especially if they have no relatives nearby. It is also good for the children to gather with others in a way that helps them to get to know the church in an informal manner, and to regard it as their own.
