Quorn Local History Group - Crime and Punishment - John Adsley

Thursday 29th October 2026
Quorn Church Rooms - 7.00pm, doors open 6.30pm
Cost: Members £2, guests £4. No need to book

A Just Measure of Pain - John will look at the changing definitions of criminality over the last 1000 years, the changing attitudes to punishment and measures to tackle crime in Britain. He will focus upon some celebrated cases including a notorious organised criminal gang in the Middle Ages, the hanging of an Earl and the greatest number hanged in one day, - all in Leicestershire. He will also focus upon several one-time residents of Quorn who were sentenced to death across three centuries and their stories.
